1st T20 International Preview: India and England will play a five-match series of the shortest format starting tomorrow. The last time England came to India to play a T20 International series was in 2021. India won that series under Virat Kohli’s leadership.
Now India is under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy stint in the shortest format. The Men in Blue haven’t lost any series of the T20 International forCricmat under SKY’s leadership since their triumph in the Caribbean. However, India should not take Jos Buttler and his men lightly as they can spring a surprise on their day as well.
Jos is the T20 World Cup 2022 winner. They won the semis against India by 10 wickets and sealed the finals against Pakistan in that event in the Aussie Nation three years back. Apart from being a terrific skipper, Buttler is also a dangerous batter for England in the white-ball format.
Buttler would be the player to watch out for in the 1st T20 International match. Apart from Jos the Boss, Adil Rashid, Harry Brook, Jofra Archer, Liam Livingstone, Philip Salt, and Mark Wood are potential threats for the home side, India, in the 1st T20 International encounter and also in this five-match series of the shortest form of the game.
Talking about the Men in Blue, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma will continue to play the way they batted in South Africa. Alongside, SKY, Samson, and Varma, Hardik, Rinku and Axar will certainly be in the playing eleven. Mohammed Shami’s comeback is also one big headline. Shami has also been picked for CT 2025.
India hasn’t lost any series of the shortest format at home against England and the home side would be eager to keep that record intact in this series as well. But England, who didn’t have a good ODI World Cup in 2023 in India, will be eyeing this series as a preparatory one for the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. If Buttler and Co win this series then that would be a great confidence booster for them.
