Gautam Gambhir was the skipper when Kolkata Knight Riders won their first IPL trophy in 2012 and their second IPL crown in 2014. He was also the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants team as well, who reached back-to-back playoff positions in 2022 and 2023 under the leadership of the Karnataka wicketkeeper-batsman, Kannur Lokesh Rahul.

Gautam Gambhir is also a two-time World Cup winner for Team India. He was the opening batter of the team when the Men in Blue won the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa and ODI World Cup in 2011 at home. Gauti also played gems of knocks in those two event finals which helped India lift those ICC titles.

Gautam Gambhir scored 75 runs in the T20 World Cup final versus Pakistan in 2007 and 97 runs versus Sri Lanka in the 2011 ODI World Cup final which was played in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. But GG wasn’t part of the squad when India lifted the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 when that ICC tournament was played in England and Wales.

Now Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the Head Coach of the Men’s Indian Cricket Team after his successful mentorship roles with Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders. So in today’s segment, we shall mention the two coaches who made their teams win the IPL Title and the ICC Trophy –

Trevor Bayliss Is The Only Coach To Win An ICC Title And Two IPL Trophies –

The Australian-born player and the former coach of that cricketing nation, Trevor Bayliss was the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League when they won their first two IPL trophies in 2012 and 2014, which was under the leadership skills of Gautam Gambhir. Bayliss was also the coach of England when they won the 2019 ODI World Cup, played at their home.

In the 2012 season of the cash-rich league tournament, Trevor Bayliss was appointed as the coach of the Purple Army side for the first time and he made an impact straight away for them. KKR won 12 games and lost five matches to qualify for the playoffs and finish second on the points table. After that, Gauti and Co defeated Chennai Super Kings in the finals which made them the champions of IPL 2012 edition for the first time.

KKR made a cameback in winning ways in the season of IPL 2014 after they failed to qualify for the playoffs in the 2013 season. Under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, The Knight Riders won the final seven matches of the 2014 edition to qualify for the top four spot. Then the Purple Army won the finals against Kings XI Punjab in the 2014 season to claim their second IPL title.

In 2015, Trevor Bayliss was appointed as the head coach of the England Cricket Team for the first time. Bayliss was also the assistant coach of the Sri Lankan team when they reached the finals of the 2011 ODI World Cup in India, which the Lankan Tigers lost the finals versus Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men.

However, in 2019, Bayliss made the England team to win the ODI World Cup when it was played at their home under the captaincy skills of Eion Morgan. Under the coaching stint of Bayliss, England also reached the finals of the 2016 T20 World Cup when it was played in India. But his side lost to West Indies in the finals which was played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Gary Kirsten Was The Coach Of Team India In 2011 And Gujarat Titans In 2022 –

The former batsman of South Africa and the ODI World Cup-winning coach of Team India has also won an IPL Trophy as the batting coach. Gary Kirsten was the coach of the Men in Blue when they won their second World Cup trophy of the fifty overs format at home in 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

India was the first host country to win the ODI World Cup of 2011 at home. Then in 2022, the tournament of the Indian Premier League decided to add two new teams. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants were the teams added in this cash-rich league tournament and now the IPL is played every year with 10 teams.

Gujarat Titans was under the leadership of Hardik Pandya in the 2022 and 2023 seasons of the IPL. In their first season itself, GT won their maiden and only title as of now and India’s 2011 World Cup winning coach was also their batting coach in that season. GT won the finals on their home ground of Shri Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad against Rajasthan Royals.
