India: Many players from India have earned a huge name in international cricket due to their brilliant performances as batsmen, bowlers, and fielders. Over the years, India has stepped up as the batting team and it is still known as the batting powerhouse. This is because the team has produced some great batters’ like Tendulkar, Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath, Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag, Dhoni, Kohli and there are many more players.
But many times the bowlers are not praised enough for their brilliant work. India has also produced many great bowlers. The likes of Erapalli Prasanna, Chandrashekhar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Javagal Srinath, Venkatesh Prasad, Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and many more.
There have been times when the part-time bowlers of the team have done well than the regular, full-time bowlers. When the full-time bowlers used to struggle to find their right line and length, the part-timers came in as their replacements and did a wonderful job for the country.
The part-timers found the accuracy and rhythm which the regular bowlers couldn’t find and many times the part-timers also took a 5 wicket haul to their names. 1. Sachin Tendulkar –
This legendary player has not left any stone unturned in his era of 24 years in International cricket. The legendary batsman, Sachin Tendulkar has the bulk of records to his name in International Cricket. He also features in this bowling record. The Master Blaster has taken a five-wicket haul in ODI cricket career twice.
Incidentally, Sachin took those 5 wickets in Kochi. In the year 1998 against Australia, Tendulkar took five wickets and gave away just 32 runs from 10 overs, due to this match-winning performance, India won that match comfortably. He also won the Man of the Match award for this bowling effort.
The second time when Sachin bagged a five-wicket haul, was in the year 2005 against the arch-rivals Pakistan. India also won this match. The special thing about those performances is that Sachin Tendulkar had given a flop show with the bat both times. But he still contributed to the team’s cause.
2. Sourav Ganguly –
Dada, The Prince of Kolkata was the greatest captain of India. Sourav Ganguly was also the greatest opening batsman along with Sachin Tendulkar. But Dada never made any headlines because of his bowling performances. It was his bat which did most of the talking in his career.
Dada used to bring himself on whenever the full-time bowler needed a break. But Sourav Ganguly had magic in his bowling too which went unnoticed. In the year 1997, India played an ODI match against Pakistan in Canada. Dada grabbed a 5 wicket haul in that match. Sourav took 5 wickets and gave away just 16 runs in that ODI match.
India had scored just 182 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 50 overs.
But in response, Pakistan was bundled out for just 148 runs. Sourav Ganguly’s five-wicket haul did the trick for India. Dada was also adjudged Man of the Match of that game because of his brilliant bowling performance.
3. Virender Sehwag –
The dashing opening batsman has also been included in this list. Sehwag was also an all-round calibre for India. But very few people knew about his bowling expertise. Virender Sehwag has taken a five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Sehwag achieved this feat in the year 2008 when India played a Test match against Australia in Delhi. During the first innings of the Australian team, Sehwag took 5 wickets and gave away 104 runs.
In the final session of the final day, Australia had to chase a target of 245 runs with eight overs to go but this match ended in a draw. However, Virender Sehwag’s special performance with the ball had turned the game on its feet. The special thing about this special performance was that Virender Sehwag had a flop show with the bat as an opener and still he gave an amazing performance with the ball which made this Test match a memorable one for Sehwag and India.
