Australia could manage just 181 runs in their 1st innings which allowed India to take a lead of just four runs. Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh and Nitish were the pace bowlers who delivered for India in the much-needed situation. But the batting performance from the Men in Blue in their 2nd innings again was a disappointing one.

One of the Indian batters scored a half-century in the second innings when the visitors batted. He went on to make a brilliant record for India in the red-ball matches. That wicketkeeper-batsman scored the second-fastest fifty for the Men in Blue in the Test format.

In This Segment, We Shall Mention The Top Four Batsmen From The Men In Blue Who Scored The Fastest Half Centuries In The Red Ball Form Of The Game –

1. Rishabh Pant –

The flamboyant wicketkeeper batter of Team India continued his ultra-aggression mode in this series. Pant has been getting starts but hasn’t converted them into big scores. However today, the wicketkeeper scored his second-fastest fifty in the red ball format at SCG.

Pant reached his half-century in just 29 deliveries, which is the second fastest in Test match cricket. His previous fastest half-century was against the Sri Lankan Tigers at Bengaluru, where the flamboyant wicketkeeper-batsman slammed a fifty of just 28 deliveries in 2022.

2. Shardul Thakur –

Shardul Thakur was India’s once-designated pace-bowling all-rounder on overseas tours. He was also the hero when India won the last Border Gavaskar Trophy series in 2021. However, now he has lost his place in all three forms of the game and maybe Nitish Kumar Reddy has cemented that spot because of his great knock at Melbourne.

Lord Thakur is the second batter from the Men in Blue to smash a fastest half century in the red ball form of the game. Shardul delivered when it mattered the most for India and that too in the overseas tour of England in 2021 at The Oval. India reached 191 runs in their first innings mainly because of Shardul Thakur’s 57-run knock. He scored India’s third-fastest fifty in Tests, reaching it in just 31 balls.

3. Yashaswi Jaiswal –

India’s young opening batter of the red ball format and the shorter version of the game, Yashaswi Jaiswal has been doing a good job at the international level along with the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals. Jaiswal was the highest run-getter in the red ball format last year in 2024.

He is the third Indian batter to amass a fastest half century in the Test format for the Men in Blue. In the second and the last red ball match versus the Bangla Tigers, Yashaswi Jaiswal reached a half century in just 31 deliveries and India broke the record of reaching the fastest 50s, 100s and 200s in that game at Kanpur.

4. Virender Sehwag –

Viru was also an attacking opening batsman of the Men in Blue. He is the only Indian batter to amass five fastest double centuries in the red ball form of the game and now he has been mentioned in this list of top four as the batter who has scored the fastest half century in the Test matches for India. Viru scored a fifty in 32 balls against England in 2008 at Chennai.
