The Purple Army won their third title in 2024. Their other two trophy wins were in 2012 and 2014 under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, who was their mentor in this season.

Kolkata Knight Riders crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad in the qualifier one match and went straight to the 2024 Indian Premier League final and in the last encounter of this cash-rich league tournament, KKR continued their rich vein of form to topple the Orange Army once again. The Knight Riders won the final match of TATA IPL 2024 by eight wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Now the next IPL season will be in 2025 and before that season of the Indian Premier League starts, there will be a mega auction. The venue, dates and timing of the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction haven’t been announced. But before that event starts we shall make a list of five players who might not be retained by their current IPL franchise.

1. Hardik Pandya –

The fast bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya was brought again by his old franchise Mumbai Indians. But he couldn’t replicate what he did for Gujarat Titans in their title-winning edition in 2022 and GT also reached the finals in 2023. Under Hardik’s captaincy, MI finished in the last position in the Indian Premier League 2024.

In this case, the Ambanis, the owner of the Mumbai Indians franchise might release Hardik Pandya. In the 2024 IPL season, Hardik wasn’t that player which everyone knows. He scored just 216 runs from 14 matches and he had picked up 11 wickets from 14 games played in this season.

In the mega auction, Pandya might be released from the MI team and maybe he will get back to GT again. The Titans also didn’t do well in this edition of the Indian Premier League. So they will want their title-winning skipper back in their side. Hardik will also face a one-match ban because he maintained a slow over-run rate in the last match of MI in this edition.

2. David Warner –

The Aussie opener, David Warner had ended his Test career in 2023 and he will continue to play the other two forms of the game for Australia till the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. But his performance in the Indian Premier League 2024 season wasn’t that great. Dashing Warner amassed just 168 runs before he was dropped from the side.

The Delhi Capitals franchise team may not move ahead with David in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League. Warner will be released from the squad because DC has a replacement in the opening position. David’s countrymate, Jake Fraser-McGurk is the man who will play instead of Warner as an opener.

Jake Fraser-McGurk did well for DC this year. In just 9 matches, Jake Fraser-McGurk scored 330 runs in his debut season in the Indian Premier League. So DC will stick to McGurk for many seasons to come because of the way he scored those runs. He gave an explosive starts to the DC side which Warner had failed to so do.

3. Glenn Maxwell –

The Big Show of Australia and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Glenn Maxwell didn’t deliver for his franchise team in the Indian Premier League 2024 season. He scored just 52 runs in 10 matches he played in this edition of the cash-rich league tournament, which is the lowest run scored by a batter in a single season of the IPL.

Maxi was replaced by England’s Will Jack who used that opportunity well at the number three batting position. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, Maxwell will not be retained by RCB and instead any foreign player, the Bengaluru franchise should opt for an Indian talent which would also the country in future.

4. KL Rahul –

The opener batter, wicketkeeper and captain, KL Rahul did a decent job as a batsman in the Indian Premier League 2024. But still, his team didn’t qualify for the playoffs this season and KL Rahul’s leadership was also criticized. Lucknow Super Giants even lost a game versus Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 wickets and that too inside the first half of a T20 innings.

After that loss, even the LSG owner, Sanjay Goneka wasn’t happy with KL Rahul at all. So in the IPL 2025 mega auctions, Rahul’s journey with LSG might end and the Super Giants franchise will look for a new leader. Krunal Pandya led the side well when KL was injured in the IPL 2023 season. He can be that option for the leadership role in 2025 and onwards.

5. Dhruv Jurel –

The wicketkeeper batter made a fantastic debut in the longer version of the game against England. Jurel had also bailed India out in a match which was played in Ranchi. But his performance in the Indian Premier League 2024 wasn’t that good according to the high standards he has set for himself.

The RR franchise already has two wicketkeepers in their squad and they will not drop them in the near future. Dhruv Jurel can be picked by Chennai Super Kings, who will be looking for an Indian keeper batter. Jurel scored 195 runs from 14 matches played in Indian Premier League 2024 and most probably he will be released from the RR franchise side.
