7 Batsmen With Most Sixes In A Single Edition Of The T20 World Cup

T20 World Cup: The two time champions team of the Caribbean opened their account in the Super 8 Round of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. After losing to another two time champion side, who are the defending champions of this edition, England, the home side won their match versus the United States of America which was played today morning in Barbados.

The bowlers of West Indies bundled out the United States side for just 128 runs in 19.5 overs. Andre Russell and Roston Chase picked up three scalps each while Alazzari Joseph picked up two wickets and Gudakesh Motie got one wicket to his name. Then the batters chased that score down in just 10.5 overs and West Indies won this match by nine wickets and 55 deliveries to spare.

In 46  encounters played in this T20 World Cup 2024, till now there have been 412 sixes in this edition of the ICC mega event of the shortest format and this record also surpassed the 2021 T20 World Cup record. In that edition, 405 sixes were recorded. However, in this edition, nine more matches are still to be played and that too in just seven days.

The T20I or the franchise-based tournaments of the shortest format attract the viewers more because of sixes and fours scored by the batters. In today’s game as well a Batter from the home side of the West Indies has broken a record of smashing the most maximums in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.

Here Are Those Seven Batsmen Who Have Achieved This Feat In The Tournament Of The Shortest Format. But not a single batter from India has been mentioned in this list of seven. The Indian batters have amassed tons of sixes in a T20 tournament like the IPL. But none of them have done it in a tournament like the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

1. Nicholas Pooran –

This West Indian batter has amassed a record of smashing the most sixes in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. In today’s game versus the USA side, Pooran smashed 17 sixes, which is the most in a single edition of the World Cup played in the Shortest Format.

The Universal Boss was a pure entertainment package in all forms of the game. Gayle also had scored the most sixes in the ODI World Cup as well and he had the record of smashing the most sixes in a single edition of the T20 World Cup history before Pooran broke it this morning. In their first title-winning season of 2012, Gayle smashed 16 sixes to his name.

3. Marlon Samuels –

Another player who did well for the West Indies in their title-winning season of the T20 World Cup 2012 edition, which was held in Sri Lanka and West Indies won that year’s tournament of the shortest format. Marlon Samuels was the third-highest run-getter of that edition and he was also ranked third for smashing the most sixes. Samuels had scored 15 sixes in the 2012 edition of the ICC mega event of the shortest format.

4. Shane Watson –

The legendary pace bowling all-rounder of Australia has been mentioned fourth in this list. He was the highest run-getter of the 2012 edition when the Aussies reached the semi-finals of this ICC T20I competition. Watto has also smashed the second-most sixes in that edition. Just like Samuels, Watson also amassed 15 sixes 6 games of the T20 World Cup 2012 season.

5. Tamim Iqbal –

The 2016 T20 World Cup was played in the Men in Blue nation and West Indies won this title for the second time. But this player from Bangladesh, Tamim Iqbal had scored the most runs in that edition. Iqbal also smashed the most sixes as well. He amassed 295 runs and smashed 14 maximums from six games played in that edition.

6. Craig McMillan –

The Kiwis have always dominated all three forms of the game. But still, they have been successful in winning just two ICC titles till now. The first ever T20 World Cup was played in 2007 in South Africa and India won that event of the shortest format. Craig McMillian was the eighth-highest run scorer of that edition. But this player from New Zealand had smashed 13 sixes which was the most by any player in that inaugural edition.

7. Luke Wright –

This player from England, Luke Wright is the player to smash the most sixes in a single edition of the T20 World Cup as of now. In 2012, already three players have smashed the most sixes and Luke Wright is the fourth. He had smashed 13 sixes in that edition of the T20 World Cup.
