Recently a new scam has come to light in which if you charge your devices at public USB charging stations you might end up losing sensitive information. The government has issued a warning to the citizen regarding the scam and advising them not to charge their devices over these places.

What’s exactly USB Scam Is?

USB scams also known as charger scams are one in which Scammers install malicious software and public charging spots and extract all the personal data from the user’s device and access its control.

Whenever unsuspecting users plug in their devices to these charging ports to charge them, the scammers manipulate the charging ports and can steal personal information like bank details, passwords, etc. This technique is called “juice-jacking”.

Safety Measures for this

CERT-IN suggests avoiding charging your devices like smartphones and laptops at these charging ports even if your battery is low or else you could lead to a financial loss.

Try to carry your chargers and Power bank
Keep your phone’s software updated
If possible, charge your phone when switched off
Install virus detection software on your devices

If you are a victim of this scam or any other cyber fraud immediately report to the cyber crime department.
