4 Bowlers With A Five Wicket Haul In T20 Internationals For India

Must read

T20 Internationals: The twenty-over format is more suited for the batsmen than the players who hold the white cherry in their hands. This form of the game is said to be cruel if you are a bowler because if any bowler misses his/her length even by a small margin, then that bowler will go for plenty of runs in his quota of four overs.

The pace bowlers have a chance of making an impact in the first six overs of the powerplay even when the field restrictions are on. That is because of the new ball and many times the spinners have also bowled the first over in T20 Internationals. Ravichandran Ashwin has also bowled with the new red cherry in the Test matches as well.

Despite facing all the pressure, some bowlers have picked up a five-wicket haul in the T20 Internationals. Picking up a five-fer in the shortest format isn’t an easy job. To achieve that success, a bowler needs to bowl with the correct line and length. The bowlers should also have a good temperament to be the best.

Here is the list of 4 Indian Bowlers who have picked up a five-wicket haul in the T20 Internationals. But not a single fast bowler or spin bowler has picked up a five-fer in the T20 World Cup history for the Men in Blue. Can any Indian bowler achieve this feat in the ongoing T20 World Cup in 2024 in the USA and Caribbean?

The spin wizard of the white ball format, Yuzvendra Chahal was the first-ever bowler from Team India to pick a five-fer in T20 Internationals. Yuzi achieved this fear against England in 2017. He picked up match figures of 6 wickets for 25 runs from his four overs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar –

Bhuvi was the lead pace bowler of Team India once upon a time. But now he has lost his place in the side from all three forms of the game. He is the first and only Indian pacer to pick two five-wicket hauls in T20 Internationals. Kumar’s first five fer was against South Africa in 2018. He picked up five wickets for 24 runs from his four overs.

Then Bhuvneshwar repeated his magic in 2022 against the Afghans in Dubai. He picked up 5 wickets and gave away only 4 runs in the Asia Cup T20I match where Virat Kohli also scored his one and only T20 International century for the Men in Blue.

3. Kuldeep Yadav –

The Chinman bowler, Kuldeep Yadav is the lone spin bowler who has picked two five-wicket hauls in T20 Internationals for India. Yadav ji’s first five fer came against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. He picked up five wickets and gave away 24 runs from four overs and his second five-fer was against the Proteas at Johannesburg in 2023 where he picked up a five-fer in just 2.5 overs and gave only 17 runs. As of now, Kuldeep is the last Indian bowler to pick five wickets in T20 Internationals for India.

4. Deepak Chahar –

This list ends with Deepak Chahar. The fast bowler from the Chennai Super Kings team in the Indian Premier League has picked up a five-wicket haul in the T20 Internationals against Bangladesh in 2019 at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Chahar picked six wickets in just 3.2 overs and he conceded only seven runs. Deepak also won the Player of the Match award in that match.
