One more valid reason why the T20Is have grown popular is because of the franchise tournaments which are nowadays played all over the world. Thanks to the BCCI for starting the first kind of franchise-based T20 tournament like the Indian Premier League. This cash-rich league tournament gave rise to many other leagues like PSL, CPL, BBL, The Hundred, LPL and so on where the unknown players have also grown popular and also earned crores of rupees.

On this day in 2018, one batter had amassed the highest individual score in the T20I format and that record hasn’t been broken even after six long years. Today in this segment we shall name the batter. In the shortest format, the Universal Boss, Christopher Henry Gayle has smashed most of the records.

Chris Gayle – The Universal Boss.

He also still holds the record of smashing the highest individual score in IPL History as well and that record is also intact. Gayle scored an unbeaten 175 runs versus the team of Pune Warriors India in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s home ground, which is M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Even after 11 long years, no batter has gone past the runs scored by Chris Gayle in a single innings.

On This Day: In 2018 Aaron Finch Scored 172 Runs Versus Zimbabwe –

Australia had played the tri-series in the shortest format versus Pakistan and Zimbabwe. In the third match of the series, which was played at Harare Sports Club in Harare, the skipper of that series, Aaron Finch slammed the highest individual score in the history of the shortest format.

The lone T20 World Cup-winning skipper of Australia, Aaron Finch scored 172 runs from just 76 deliveries. Finchy also went past his own record, which is the third-highest individual score in the T20 International form of the game. He scored 156 runs in 70 deliveries versus England in 2013 at Southampton.

Australia also had the third-highest opening partnership in that match. D Arcy Short and skipper Aaron Finch shared an opening partnership of 223 runs. But Short played that innings of 46 runs only as a second fiddle and he was more of a spectator in that match. D Arcy only saw his skipper who went brisk against the Zimbabwean bowlers.

Australia posted a mammoth score of 229 runs for the loss of two wickets in their 20-overs quota. In reply, the host of that tri-series, Zimbabwe managed to score just 129 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs and the Aussies won that match by a margin of 100 runs, which was also the biggest win for Australia in terms of runs in the shortest format.

Aaron Finch was named the player of the match for his outstanding knock of 172 runs which he scored from 76 deliveries, this score is the highest individual score of the shortest format even today in 2024. Six years have passed by, but not a single batter in the T20 Internationals has gone past the run mark of 172 runs.
