Trainee IAS officer Pooja Khedkar is embroiled in multiple controversies, raising questions about her qualifications and actions. A special committee has been established to investigate the allegations and verify her candidature. Here is an overview of the issues surrounding her.
Who is Pooja Khedkar?
Pooja Khedkar is an IAS officer from the 2023 batch. She had previously cleared the civil service exam in 2021 in the disability category, securing a position as Assistant Director in the Sports Authority of India. In 2023, she became an IAS officer with a rank of 821 in the 2022 batch. Notably, Pooja’s father was a senior officer in the Maharashtra government.
Controversy Over Pooja Khedkar’s Selection
During her civil service examination, Pooja claimed to have mental and visual disabilities, receiving concessions during the selection process. Despite scoring well, her selection has been questioned due to her repeated absences from subsequent medical examinations. She refused to appear for the medical check six times, citing various reasons.
Demands During Training
Before her appointment as an IAS officer, Pooja underwent mandatory training. Allegations have emerged that she made numerous demands during this period. She sought detailed information about the facilities available to the Collector and Deputy Collector, requested an office at her preferred location, and allegedly refused to join without an attached washroom. Additionally, she lodged several complaints about the office setup, which were officially recorded.
Misuse of Quota and Fraud Allegations
Pooja is accused of misusing the disability and OBC reservation quotas to secure her IAS position fraudulently. Despite claiming disabilities, she never appeared for medical verification. These allegations have further intensified scrutiny of her selection process.
The Audi Car Controversy
Pooja came into the limelight due to her use of an Audi car with an unauthorized red-blue light. This controversy began during her duty in Pune, where she was seen travelling in the Audi, which had a red-blue light installed. According to a PTI report, the Pune Police will take strict action against the misuse of these lights. The Audi, registered in a private company’s name, had accumulated challans worth over ₹26,000 for various violations. Action will be taken under the Motor Vehicles Act regarding these infractions.
Current Status
Following these controversies, Pooja Khedkar has been transferred from Pune to Washim. The investigation into her actions and qualifications is ongoing, with the special committee examining all allegations against her.
