SNCF, the company responsible for running trains in France, stated that several rail lines in the west, north, and east of the country are currently out of service. The French government is very concerned about these issues, which have arisen just hours before the start of the Paris 2024 Olympics. While athletes prepare for the major event, the disruptions in train services could hinder people’s ability to move around the city.

France ‘s railway tracks have suffered significant damage

According to SNCF, some unusual incidents have been occurring on high-speed rail tracks, including reports of tracks being set on fire. It is expected to take about a week to repair the damage, causing major delays for trains. SNCF has indicated that rail lines in the west, north, and east of France are particularly affected. French officials are frustrated by this situation occurring right before the Paris Olympics. SNCF Chief Jean-Pierre Farandou mentioned that approximately 800,000 people are unable to travel due to these issues.

Regarding the opening ceremony, some tickets are free while others require payment

People are currently stranded at various train stations, although this situation does not appear to be directly related to the Olympics. Around 600,000 people are expected to attend the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Of these, 222,000 tickets will be distributed for free, while 104,000 tickets will be sold for access to the event.
