Delhi Coaching: A heart-wrenching incident is coming to light from Delhi. Three people have died due to waterlogging at RAU’S IAS Study Circle Coaching. This tragedy has also shattered the hopes of the families who had dreamed of seeing their children become IAS officers. The incident has raised questions about the system’s handling of man-made floods and gross negligence. Angry students have taken to the streets. In this context, the question arises: how did this incident happen?
Delhi Coaching Gate Closed
The incident occurred in Old Rajendra Nagar. Heavy rain late on Saturday evening caused a lot of water to accumulate on the roads. Local residents report that RAU’S IAS Study Circle operates out of a basement library where students used to study. When the rain began, the gate was closed to prevent water from entering the coaching center. According to the coaching operators, the pressure from vehicles passing at high speeds caused the glass gate to break due to the water. Within about two minutes, 10 to 12 feet of water filled the basement, trapping more than 30 students inside the library.
Locked Due to Biometric System
The police said that a biometric system had been installed on the basement door a few days earlier. Students entered the library using this biometric method. When the water filled the basement and disrupted the power supply, the gate did not open, trapping the students inside. Some reports suggest that the water flow was so rapid that no other escape routes were visible. During this time, the students were trying to escape with the help of ropes.
Police Registered FIR
The police have registered an FIR against the owner and coordinator of the coaching center and have arrested them. They further mentioned that the biometric system was installed on the basement door recently, and it is believed that the system failed due to waterlogging and the lack of electricity, preventing the trapped students from escaping.
The deceased include two girls and one boy: Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Naveen Dalvin. Following the tragedy, grief-stricken and angry students have taken to the streets, blaming the coaching center, the Delhi Government, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). They are demanding action against those responsible and compensation for the victim’s families.
