This three match series between Sri Lanka and India is a preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. India and Sri Lanka will focus more on their batting department rather than their bowling because both the teams were good with the white cherry in hand in the game and to take a series lead, the batters need to step up in the final two fifty overs games of this three-match series.

Sri Lanka Vs India: Preview Of Both The Teams

India was the favorites to win the first game and take a series of 1-0 yesterday. They were in the game after the openers had laid a solid foundation. Gill and Skipper Sharma added 75 runs for the first wicket. But the middle order and lower order batters didn’t live up to the expectations as the big guns like Kohli and KL failed to steer India home.

It was a quality half-century from Rohit Sharma at the start of the innings and some cameos from Axar and Dube allowed India to be on the same score. Kohli and Rahul didn’t convert the starts into a half-century or a three-figure mark. In the next two ODIs, India will need these two to fire which will help them to seal the fifty overs series.

The host Sri Lanka also had batting issues. They almost won this game mainly because of their spin bowlers. Wellalage scored an unbeaten 67 runs and he was the top scorer for his country in that innings. Pathum Nissanka also scored a well-complied 56 runs to start the innings on a good note. But the middle order and lower order didn’t contribute well for Sri Lanka.

Skipper Asalanka, Samarawickarama, and Avishka Fernando will need to contribute in the two matches of this series. Sri Lanka was whitewashed in a three-match series of the shortest format before the ODI series started. But despite being low on confidence, the Lankan Tigers made a strong comeback in the 1st match of this ODI series, which should lift their spirits for the upcoming last two ODI matches of this series.
