Bollywood’s History with Controversial Films

Bollywood has a long history of creating films based on true events, often leading to controversy. ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Kerala Story’ are prime examples of films that faced significant challenges before and after their release. Despite the hurdles, these movies performed exceptionally well at the box office. ‘The Diary of West Bengal,’ based on events in West Bengal, is expected to join this list of contentious yet successful films.

The Diary of West Bengal’s Focus

‘The Diary of West Bengal’ aims to depict the alleged atrocities faced by Hindus in West Bengal under the current political climate. Directed by Sanoj Mishra, the film claims to showcase the issues of love jihad, political oppression, and the influence of Mamata Banerjee. According to Mishra, the film portrays how the political landscape in West Bengal has deteriorated, with accusations that Rohingya Muslims are being granted citizenship while Hindus are persecuted.

Challenges Faced During Production

The journey to bring ‘The Diary of West Bengal’ to the big screen was fraught with difficulties. According to director Sanoj Mishra, the film underwent several reshoots, and the process of obtaining approval from the censor board was arduous. Despite these challenges, the film is now set to release on August 30th. Mishra emphasized that more effort was required to secure the film’s release than to produce it, highlighting the obstacles faced by the makers during the process.
