There was news of a rail accident in Kanpur, UP this morning, in which 22 coaches of a train derailed. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav stated that at 2:35 am today, the train’s engine collided with an object placed on the track in Kanpur, causing it to derail. He further mentioned that, according to the initial investigation, there was no fracture in the railway track.
The Railway Minister posted on his social media handle X that no passengers or railway staff were injured in the accident. Arrangements have been made to transport the passengers to Ahmedabad. Additionally, evidence of the accident has been secured, and both the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and UP Police are investigating the matter.
Kanpur ADM City Rakesh Verma reported that 22 bogies have derailed, but fortunately, no one was injured, and everyone is safe. After the accident, all passengers are sent back to the station by bus, and a relief traiin is also on its way.
The train’s driver mentioned that, on a preliminary basis, the accident occurred due to a boulder hitting the engine, as the boulder caused the cattle guard of the engine to bend.
Another accident occurred in Ranga Paani of Siliguri, West Bengal, where a goods train carrying fuel derailed. The railway authorities stated that this accident took place in a private yard. It is worth noting that a similar accident had occurred in this area a few days ago.
Helpline numbers have been released, and several trains passing through this route have been canceled. Additionally, the routes of many trains have been diverted.
