Background
The victim, a student at a private school in Chandigarh, reported that Razaq had been stalking her for several months. Initially, he approached her in the school parking lot, attempting to befriend her. When she refused, he resorted to blackmail, threatening to circulate morphed photographs of her that he had edited to appear obscene. These threats included making the images viral on social media, which instilled fear in the victim.
The Assaults
The first assault occurred on May 18, 2024, when the girl was home alone with her two-year-old sister, as their parents were at work. Razaq forcibly entered their home, threatened to kill her younger sister, and raped her. Following this, he returned to the victim’s house on two additional occasions, on July 6 and July 26, where he again assaulted her. The victim endured these traumatic experiences in silence, fearing for her sister’s safety and the repercussions of speaking out.
Discovery and Reporting
The situation came to light when the victim’s health began to deteriorate. Concerned about her well-being, her parents inquired about her distress, prompting her to reveal the horrifying truth of her ordeal. They immediately took action by filing a complaint with the police, leading to the swift arrest of Razaq.
Legal Proceedings
Chandigarh News: The police have charged Razaq under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case has been registered at the Zirakpur police station, and investigations are ongoing. Razaq, who was employed on a contract basis, reportedly resigned from his position after the school authorities were informed about the allegations.
