Delhi Police has busted a cable theft case on Delhi Metro Blue Line (from Noida Electronic City to Dwarka). On December 5, police received information about theft of signalling cables between Kirti Nagar and Moti Nagar metro stations.
A case was registered under Section 74 of the BNS and DMRC Act. Police have arrested four members of the gang, which had a total of 11 members involved in the crime.
Officials have recovered 55 metres of stolen cables, a Tata S loader vehicle and two mobile phones from the accused.
Gang Behind Cable Theft
It is important to note that other members of the gang are still at large, and the police are conducting raids at their potential hideouts. The incident took place on December 5, when the DMRC’s signaling department informed the Raja Garden Metro Police Station about an issue with the signaling track circuit alarm.
Upon investigation by DMRC staff, it was discovered that a 140-meter-long cable had been cut between the Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar metro stations. This cable is used to send data to the track circuit for locating metro trains.
22 Cases Solved by Police
The police conducted an investigation and uncovered the incident. Rashid Malik, Shah Rukh Malik, Ramzan, and Junaid have been arrested in connection with the theft.
According to the police, the accused used ropes and hooks to climb metro pillars. The stolen cable was loaded into vehicles and taken to a warehouse for sale. So far, the Delhi Metro Police have solved 22 out of 44 theft cases and arrested 53 criminals.
DMRC Statement
Regarding the incident, the Chief Executive Director of DMRC said that DMRC appreciates the prompt action taken by Delhi Police in arresting the accused involved in the theft of signalling cables between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar Metro stations (Blue Line) on December 5. This is a positive step to prevent any disruption in Metro services for the public.
