Microsoft Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella on 7 January (Tuesday) announced an investment of $3 billion i.e. Rs 25,722 crore in its cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) business in India over the next 2 years. Satya Nadella made this announcement in the Bengaluru phase of the Microsoft AI Tour.
Satya Nadella shared a post on social media platform X and wrote, ‘Thrilled to announce our new investment in AI infrastructure and skilling in India to help accelerate the country’s AI transformation.’

AI has great potential in India
The announcement has been made as part of the company’s efforts to help make India an AI-first nation. Nadella had earlier said that he believes that India has great potential in AI.
Satya Nadella had also said that he wants software giant Microsoft to play the role of assistant in reaping the benefits of this rapidly spreading technology.
Nadella met Prime Minister Narendra Modi
A day earlier on Monday, Satya Nadella also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He shared a photo of this meeting on X. Sharing the photo, Nadella wrote, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, thank you for your leadership.
Excited to work together on our commitment to make India an AI-First Nation and our continued expansion in the country. So that it can be ensured that every Indian benefits from this AI platform shift.’
Happy to know about Microsoft’s investment plans
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared a post on X and wrote, ‘Very happy to meet Satya Nadella. Also happy to know about Microsoft‘s expansion and investment plans in India. We discussed many aspects of tech, innovation and AI in this meeting.’
