Ram Mandir Ayodhya: At the Dharma Jyotish MahaKumbh held in Prayagraj on Sunday, January 19, saints and scholars declared the date of Shri RamLala’s consecration in Ayodhya as the beginning of the RamLala Samvat.
In ancient tradition, Samvats (calendars) have often been inaugurated to mark historically significant events. Currently, India follows the Vikram Samvat, which started with the coronation of Emperor Vikramaditya. Additionally, other samvats like Yudhishthir Samvat, Shaka Samvat, and Mahavir Nirvana Samvat are also observed in India.
Highlighting the consecration of Shri Ram Lala in Ayodhya as the most significant event in Hinduism after the coronation of Yudhishthir, Mahamandaleshwar Padmanabhasharan Devacharya Maharaj proposed the initiation of Shri RamLala Pratishtha Samvat during the Dharma Jyotish Maha Kumbh.

Ram Mandir Ayodhya: This proposal was warmly endorsed by saints including Swami Damodaracharya Maharaj of Haridwar, Swami Vrindavanbiharidas Maharaj of Vrindavan, Pushkar Peethadhishwar Jagadguru Venkatashprapannacharya Maharaj of Gaya, Swami Srinivasacharya Maharaj of Ayodhya, Swami Madanmohanacharya Maharaj of Ayodhya, and many others.
Furthermore, prominent scholars of Dharma and Jyotish, including Dr. Kameshwar Upadhyay from the Akhil Bhartiya Vidwat Parishad of Kashi, Prof. Bhagwat Sharan Shukla and Prof. Ramjeevan Mishra from Banaras Hindu University, along with Panchang creators Pandit Adityamohan Sharma and Pandit Amit Sharma, approved the samvat amidst chants of “Jai Shri Ram.”
Shri RamLala Pratishtha Samvat at Maha Kumbh
Ram Mandir Ayodhya: Amidst echoes of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Har Har Mahadev” throughout the venue, it was declared that Shri RamLala Pratishtha Samvat would be observed annually on Paush Shukla Dwadashi. Similar to Vikram Samvat, this new samvat will also be inscribed in all Indian Panchangs, ensuring that the memory of Shri Ram Lalla’s consecration remains eternal.
Currently, Yudhishthir Samvat 5161, Kali Samvat 5126, Vikram Samvat 2081, Shaka Samvat 1946, and Gregorian Year 2025 are in progress. On Paush Shukla Dwadashi, January 11, 2025, the first Shri RamLala Pratishtha Samvat has been started, marking one year since Shri Ram Lalla’s consecration. Thus, “Shri Ram Lalla Pratishtha Samvat 01” has now begun, and this tradition will continue for thousands of years.
