The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in Uttarakhand in January 2025. In protest against this law, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, led by its president Maulana Arshad Madani, filed a petition in the Nainital High Court today and mentioned the matter before the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand.
The court may hear the case later this week. Senior Supreme Court lawyer Kapil Sibal will argue on behalf of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind in this important case.

UCC in Uttarakhand: Will Not Accept Any Law Against Sharia – Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind
Maulana Madani, reacting to the petition, stated that Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has approached the court with the hope of upholding the Constitution, democracy, and the rule of law in the country, believing that justice will be served. He emphasized that the court is their last resort.
He also said that they do not accept any law that goes against Sharia, as Muslims can compromise on many things but not on their faith and Sharia. According to him, this is not just a question of existence but a matter of rights for Muslims.
Maulana Madani further stated that by implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the current government intends to take away the constitutional rights granted to Muslims in the country.
He emphasized that, according to their faith, their religious laws are not man-made but are derived from the Quran and Hadith. He questioned the need for a Uniform Civil Code, arguing that those who do not wish to follow any religious personal laws already have an alternative civil code available in the country.
