Today is the third day of the ongoing session of the Delhi Assembly. After the suspension of 21 opposition MLAs, only the ruling BJP MLAs are present in the House. As soon as the proceedings began, Speaker Vijender Gupta thanked CM Yogi and PM Modi for the successful organization of the Mahakumbh.
After this, other MLAs started raising issues related to their constituencies. During the session, BJP MLA from Najafgarh Neelam Pahalwan proposed to change the name of Najafgarh to Nahargarh.
Demand to Rename Najafgarh as Nahargarh
BJP MLA Neelam Pahalwan said that Aurangzeb had renamed Nahargarh as Najafgarh. She further said, “During the 1857 revolt, Raja Nahar Singh fought and ensured that the Najafgarh area was included in the Delhi province. However, despite several formalities, the name has not been changed till date. We have appealed several times to change the name of Najafgarh. Even when our MP was Parvesh Verma, we made several efforts through him to restore the name Nahargarh.”
Highlighting other issues, she said, “Mr. Speaker, I have a lot of expectations from you. If the master plan is implemented in rural Delhi, there will be development there too. My constituency lacks a maternity and child care centre. The centre should be built on the vacant land.”
Meanwhile, BJP MLAs Abhay Verma and Ajay Mahawar raised concerns over sewage and sanitation issues. Abhay Verma criticised the municipal corporation, saying residents dump debris and broken stones on roads, obstructing paths built by the PWD. He stressed the need to remove garbage from PWD roads to curb corruption.
Ajay Mahawar pointed out that in his constituency, blocked sewers have caused dirty water to overflow onto the streets.
CCTV Cameras Not Installed in Some Areas? BJP MLAs Demand Action
Vishwas Nagar MLA O.P. Sharma alleged that the previous government had not installed CCTV cameras in his constituency. Vijender Gupta and Abhay Verma also raised the same issue and questioned why some constituencies were left out if 2,000 CCTV cameras were to be installed in every assembly constituency.
Responding, PWD minister Parvesh Verma said the matter will be investigated and action will be taken against the officials responsible. He assured that CCTV cameras will be installed in all constituencies that were left out of this initiative earlier.
