India Vs Bangladesh: The Men In Blue Had Played Their First Ever Pink Ball Test Match Versus The Bangla Tigers

When Bangladesh toured India in 2019 for a series of Test and T20I matches, they also played a Pink Ball Test match which was the first ever Day Night Test match in the Men in Blue nation. Overall India has played four Pink Ball Matches. The Indian Cricket Team has won three matches and lost one game while none of the Day Night Test Matches have ended as a drawn affair.

The Garden City of Kolkata turned Pink on that day in 2019. Eden Gardens became the first-ever stadium in India to host a Pink Ball Test Match. India had won that encounter by an innings and 46 runs. Bangladesh batted first and they were bundled out for just 106 runs in their first innings. Whereas, India declared at 347 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 1st outing.

Again, Bangladesh couldn’t match India’s dominance in their second innings. The visitors, Bangladesh scored just 195 runs and lost their first-ever Pink Ball Test Match by a whopping margin of an innings and 46 runs. Mushfiqur Rahman scored 74 runs in the second innings, which was the top score from a Bangladeshi batter in that whole Test match. Al Amin and Ebadat Hussain were the highest wicket takers for them. They picked up three scalps each with the Pink Ball in the lone innings they bowled in that historic event.

India Vs Bangladesh: 3 Top Performers From The Men In Blue In Their First Ever Pink Ball Test Match In 2019

That Test event In Kolkata was dominated by the bowlers more than the batters of the Indian Team and that is why in this list of top three we have mentioned just one batter and two pace bowlers have been included.

Ishant Sharma –

The veteran pace bowler of the Men in Blue side, Ishant Sharma had picked up a five-wicket haul in that Pink Ball Test match and he became the first-ever Indian pace bowler to achieve this feat and that also allowed India to bundle out the Bangladeshi batsmen for a lowish score of 106 runs in their first innings.

Virat Kohli –

The King of Indian Cricket, International Cricket and Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli was the first ever Indian batsman to smash a century in the Pink Ball Test Match and that too at one of the most iconic venues in the country. Virat was the skipper in that match and he led his team from the front.

His score of 136 runs was the reason why India could reach a score of 347 runs in their 1st innings and the home side batted just once in that match. Apart from Cheteshwar Pujara’s 55 runs and Ajinkya Rahane, who contributed 51 runs, none of the other batters of Men in Blue could even get more than 30 runs. Kohli also won the Player of the Match award for his amazing knock with the Pink Ball.

Umesh Yadav

This list will end with another pace bowler, Umesh Yadav. Yadav Ji has been a terrific performer for India in the Test matches played at home. But his performances in the overseas tours and Test matches have equally been disappointing. That’s why he hasn’t cemented his place in the Indian team in any of the formats.

In India’s first-ever Pink Ball Test Match, Yadav Ji picked up a five-wicket haul in the second innings and after Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav became the second Indian pacer bowler to pick up a five-wicket haul with the Pink Ball. In the first innings, Umesh got three wickets to his name and due to his five fer, Bangladesh was all out for just 195 runs in their second innings, which helped India to win their first-ever Pink Ball match quite easily and comprehensively.
