American Airlines flights have been resumed. A day before Christmas, all flights of the world’s largest airline operator American Airlines were halted for about 2 hours.
This was done due to a technical glitch on Tuesday morning. All flights of the airline were grounded from 6 am to 8 am US time. The airline lifted the ground stop across the country at 8 am, but has not given any details about the ‘technical problem’.
FAA had announced to stop flights
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had announced to stop all flights of American Airlines due to technical glitches. The FAA had given this instruction after all operations of the airlines were halted due to a technical glitch.
American Airlines – We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers
At that time, American Airlines said in a statement, ‘Our teams are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible and we apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers.’
At the same time, the airline said on the social media platform X, ‘The safety of passengers is our top priority. Once the problem is fixed, we will safely take you to your destinations.’
The airline itself had requested the FAA to stop the flights
Millions of people travel by American Airlines on Christmas. The airline itself had requested the FAA to stop all flights. About 5 lakh passengers travel every day by American Airlines to 350 destinations in 60 countries.
The suspension of flights was announced before the boarding of passengers
According to American media reports, the announcement of stopping flights was made just 15 minutes before the boarding of passengers. Many videos of American airports were coming on social media, in which passengers were being updated every 15 minutes. In this, American Airlines was saying that our system is down. We are not able to send crew members and passengers to the plane.
What is a ground stop?
Ground stops are the most restrictive of the air traffic management measures. They require particular flights to remain on the ground based on criteria such as airport, aerospace or equipment constraints.
Ground stops are typically implemented during periods of serious capacity reductions, such as weather-related problems, technical issues or failure of air traffic control services.
