The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday announced that the Foreign Secretary will visit Bangladesh on December 9 for Foreign Office Consultations (FOC). The visit is part of India’s structured dialogue with the Bangladeshi side, the ministry said.
Speaking on attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, the MEA said, “We have discussed this issue earlier as well. We reiterate our expectation that the ongoing legal processes in Bangladesh will be conducted in a fair and transparent manner, ensuring full respect for the legal rights of the individuals involved.”
Muhammad Yunus Meets Religious Leaders
Amid ongoing attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, the head of the country’s interim government, Muhammad Yunus, met with religious leaders. During the meeting, he sought accurate information about the attacks on minorities.
Yunus stated that while reports of attacks on minorities have surfaced again, there is a significant disparity between the reality on the ground and what is being reported in the foreign media.
‘We Are Closely Monitoring Syria’ – MEA
Commenting on the situation in Syria, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “We have observed a recent escalation in fighting in northern Syria. We are closely monitoring the situation. There are around 90 Indian nationals in Syria, of whom 14 are working with various UN organisations. Our Mission is in close touch with them to ensure their safety.”
In Syria, rebel fighters had been battling the army for control of Hama for the past three days. The army accused the rebels of using suicide attacks to breach the defense lines. Several soldiers were killed while fighting the rebels during this period. Hama is Syria’s fourth-largest city.
Putin to Visit India Next Year
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “We have discussed the annual summit with Russia. The last annual summit was held in Moscow, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The next summit is scheduled to be held in India next year, the dates of which will be finalised through diplomatic channels.”
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Modi went to Moscow for the 22nd India-Russia annual summit on 8-9 July. Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit India next year. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed this and said that Prime Minister Modi has invited President Putin to visit India.
