iPhones being made in India since 2017
Apple started manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017 with the iPhone SE. It has three electronics manufacturing service (EMS) partners – Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron. After the iPhone SE, the iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 were also manufactured in India. Foxconn’s plant is in Sriperumbudur near Chennai.
Apple part of the PLI scheme of the Government of India
All three contract manufacturers of Apple (Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron) are part of the Government of India’s Rs 41,000 crore Production-Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI). Only after this scheme has iPhone manufacturing in India gained momentum. In 2020, the Government of India launched the PLI Scheme.
This scheme gives companies from foreign countries the opportunity to take advantage of local manufacturing, as well as earn incentives on it.

Apple also launched the iPhone 15 Series, Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 at the ‘Wanderlust’ event last year. The company gave Type-C port for charging for the first time. Till now it had Lightning port.
