AUS Vs IND: The Aussies have won the fourth red ball match of the five-match series at Melbourne Cricket Ground with a margin of 184 runs. By doing so, the home side, Australia, has also taken a series lead of 2-1. There is still one more Test match to be played, and for India, that match would be a must-win game.
India had won two back-to-back series in the Aussie nation on their last tours in 2019 and 2021. But this time, the Men in Blue started the 2024 Border Gavaskar Trophy with a magnificent win in Perth and they lost in Adelaide Oval and MCG. To avoid the series loss, the visitors must win the New Year Test at Sydney Cricket Ground.
Instead of listing the top performers, in this segment today, we shall list the five players from the Men in Blue who gave a flop show in the fourth red-ball match against The Aussies at MCG. The fifth and final Test match starts from 3th January 2025 to 7th January 2025.
1. Rohit Sharma –
The skipper of India’s Test and ODI team hasn’t been firing with the bat. After India won the T20 World Cup 2024, Sharma Ji lost a series in Sri Lanka, against New Zealand at home and the two red ball matches at Adelaide and MCG against the Aussies now. To avoid the series defeat, HITMAN should step up in the final match at SCG in 2025.
2. Virat Kohli –
The King had scored a magnificent century in the opening encounter at Perth. But he hasn’t reached even a half-century after the brilliant knock in the second innings of the first red ball match. In the 1st innings at MCG, Kohli looked good. But managed only 36 runs to his name and he scored only 5 runs in his second outing that too when India needed him to score big when they were asked to chase a score of 340 runs to win the fourth match of this BGT series.
3. Rishabh Pant –
The wicketkeeper batter of Team India had a good series in 2019 and 2021 when India won the series Down Under. However, in 2024, Pant hasn’t been at his best yet. He had got starts in the series. But he played some needless shorts and got out early. Pant tried to be ultra-aggressive and managed to score just 28 runs in the 1st innings and 30 runs in the second outing at Melbourne.
4. Ravindra Jadeja –
The spin bowling all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja will be India’s most featured spin bowler now, especially after the retirement of Ravichandran Ashwin. Apart from that half-century in Brisbane, Jaddu hasn’t fired in this series with the bat and he hasn’t been impactful with the ball.
At MCG, Jadeja scored 17 runs in the 1st innings and just two runs in the second innings with the bat in hand. With the red cherry, Jaddu could pick only four scalps which is much less compared to Nathan Lyon, who made a significant impact with the ball for Australia in the Test matches that he has played as of now.
5. Kannur Lokesh Rahul –
After the end of the third red ball match, which ended in a draw, Kannur Lokesh Rahul was said as the most organised batter of the Indian team in this series so far. But in the fourth Test, KL failed miserably at MCG. He was told to bat at number three position in the 4th match. However, he managed to score just 24 runs and even bagged a golden duck in the second innings of the 4th red ball match.
