Australia’s star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has announced his retirement from the ODI format. Stoinis was selected in Australia’s squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be held in February-March.
However, he announced his retirement from this format even before the tournament started. Currently Stoinis is playing for Durban Super Giants in SA20.
After his retirement, Stoinis will be replaced in Australia’s Champions Trophy squad. All teams can make changes to their Champions Trophy squad by February 12. The tournament will start on February 19.

Speaking to cricket.com.au about his ODI retirement, Stoinis said, “Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an amazing journey and I am grateful for every moment I have spent on the green and gold. Representing my country at the highest level is something I will always cherish.”
Stoinis added, “This was not an easy decision, but I feel it is the right time for me to step away from ODIs and focus on the next chapter of my career. I have a great relationship with Ron (Australian men’s team coach Andrew McDonald) and I appreciate his support. I will be cheering on the boys in Pakistan.”

It is noteworthy that Marcus Stoinis has played 71 ODI matches in his career. In 64 innings, he has scored 1,495 runs at an average of 26.69, which includes 1 century and 6 half-centuries.
Stoinis’ highest score was 146 not out. Apart from this, in 64 bowling innings, Stoinis has taken 48 wickets at an average of 43.12, in which his best performance has been 3/16.
