Bahraich: On October 13, a violent altercation took place in Maharajganj, located in the Hardi region of Mahsi Tehsil, Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, during the Durga idol immersion procession. Members of a particular community reportedly opened fire, discharging around 20 rounds, leading to the death of one young man and injuring over a dozen others.
Hindu Community Outraged After Attack
Following the incident, the Hindu community expressed their anger, resorting to vandalism and arson. The situation escalated, forcing the police to intervene with a baton charge to control the crowd. In the aftermath, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla was suspended for negligence, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has personally taken charge of the investigation.
Clash Triggered by DJ Dispute
According to reports, the dispute between the two communities began over the use of a DJ during the procession. The altercation quickly turned violent, with stone-pelting from rooftops. When Hindus resisted, the opposite group allegedly opened fire. As a result, one person lost his life, and over 15 people were injured, who are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Viral Video on Social Media
A video circulating on social media shows a young man tearing down a green flag and replacing it with a saffron one, followed by stone-pelting at a nearby shop. The deceased individual, identified as Ramgopal Mishra, is believed to be the same person who was seen placing the flag in the viral video.
CM Yogi Adityanath Orders Strict Action
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken immediate action regarding the incident. In his recent statement, he assured that those responsible for inciting violence and disrupting the peace will face the harshest penalties. He has directed officials to identify and take strict action against the rioters.
