BEML – a company that manufactures equipment used in rail, defence, transport and mining, will make coaches for the first Indigenous bullet train. The company has received a contract of Rs 867 crore for this.
Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai has given this contract to the company. After the deal to buy a bullet train from Japan failed to reach a conclusion, Indian Railways decided to manufacture it in the country itself.
One coach will cost Rs 27.86 crore.
According to a filing by BEML, the cost of each coach will be Rs 27.86 crore and the total contract value is Rs 866.87 crore. This includes design costs, one-time development costs, non-recurring charges, and one-time costs for jigs, fixtures, tooling and testing facilities.
BEML will deliver the high-speed bullet train by the end of 2026.
The company stated that this project marks a milestone in India’s high-speed train journey. The project will feature indigenously designed and manufactured trains that can reach a speed of 280 km/h. BEML will manufacture these trains at its Bengaluru Rail Coach Complex and deliver them by the end of 2026.
BEML – They will provide rotating chairs and onboard infotainment systems
The coaches of the new trains will be fully air-conditioned and their seats will be reclining and rotating. There will be separate facilities and onboard infotainment systems for passengers with disabilities or restricted mobility.
Last year, the railways built standard gauge tracks in Rajasthan for testing high-speed trains. The railways are preparing to export Bande Bharat trains.
BEML has manufactured the sleeper coach of India’s high-speed luxury train Vande Bharat
BEML has made the sleeper coach of India’s high-speed luxury train Vande Bharat. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave a glimpse of the first model of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train last month (September 1).
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will start in the next 3 months, by December. The team has completed the manufacturing work of the coach. It will leave the BEML factory in a few days. The engineers will test the train for the next 2 months. After this, they will launch the train for the passengers.
The Railway Minister said that the designers created the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train for a journey of 800 to 1200 km. In this, passengers will board at around 10 pm and arrive at their destination in the morning. The designers made this train for the middle class. Its fare will be the same as that of Rajdhani.
