BGT: The second red-ball match of the five-match Test series between Australia and India will be a Day-Night match played with the Pink cherry. This match will take place at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide from December 6th to December 10th, 2024. India will also aim to keep up their winning momentum under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
Australia has been a tough place to bat for an Asian teams. India is the only Asian side to win two red ball series in the Aussie nation. The Men in Blue won two back to back Test series on their last two tours Down Under. India won their first-ever series in Australia in 2018 and their second series win came in 2021 when India also registered their lowest-ever Test score of 36 all out.
The openers play an integral part for the team in all the conditions. In the overseas conditions, the openers of the Asian sub-continent have a job on their hands. They need to be patient with the new red cherry because that ball swings and seams the most in the early overs. If the openers don’t negotiate the new ball well and get out early than expected, then the middle order and the batters who follow are in trouble.
This is what happened in the Bengaluru Test match between India and New Zealand where the Indian openers weren’t gritty enough to show their patience with the swing new ball in the over cast conditions against New Zealand’s pace trio of Henry, Southee and Orourke. That’s why India was bundled out for just 46 runs, which is their lowest-ever score at home.

India had won the first test match at Optus Stadium in Perth by 295 runs mainly because of their bowling in both the innings and their batting in the second innings. Bumrah and his men bundled out the Aussies quite cheaply in both innings of the opening Test match. In the 1st innings, Australia was all out for just 104 runs in reply to India’s 150 runs in their first outing.
At the same time, The Aussies managed to score just 238 runs in their second innings when they were asked to chase a mammoth score of 534 runs. India declared their second innings for 487 runs for the loss of six wickets. The visitors, India got to this huge second innings score because of two centurions and a double hundred opening stand.
KL Rahul and Yashaswi Jaiswal were the ones who set the template of the 1st red ball match with their magnificent opening stand. They laid the solid foundation and from there, it was Virat Kohli who took on with the help of Nitish Kumar Reddy. KL and Jaiswal shared the first-ever double-century opening partnership for India in the Test matches Down Under.
Their 201 opening partnership is the highest ever one in the red ball matches played in Australia. India’s previous best opening stand was 191 runs between Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikanth in 1986 at Sydney Cricket Ground. That stand came in the first innings of the 3rd Test match. Sunny Ji scored 172 runs while Srikanth amassed 116 runs, as this Test match was drawn.
