In the video, Nitish Kumar is seen trying to say something while the national anthem is being played. Deepak Kumar looks uncomfortable and signals the CM to stand at attention. However, despite his signals, Nitish Kumar continues talking to him.

Wave of Criticism Against Nitish Kumar

After the video went viral on social media, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was severely criticized. Former CM Rabri Devi demanded that he apologize in the assembly. There was an uproar in the Legislative Council, due to which the proceedings had to be adjourned.

For the first time during the budget session, the proceedings in the assembly had to be adjourned till 2:00 pm. Meanwhile, Rabri Devi and others staged a sit-in on the steps of the Legislative Council’s portico. In the council, Rabri Devi remarked that Nitish Kumar had “lost his mind”, to which the chairman objected and said that such a remark was inappropriate.

The official handle of the office of former Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav posted on social media, “The insult to the national anthem has not been done only by Nitish Kumar, but by a leader who is not only the Chief Minister of Bihar but also the top leader of the NDA in the state. This insult has been done with the collective consent of BJP-JDU and its allies.”

The post further alleged that because of the BJP-JDU, people from all religious communities—Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians—had to witness this “shameful historical moment”, which is now recorded in the history of India.

“The National Anthem Deserves Honour from Everyone…”

Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad said that respecting the national anthem is equal to respecting the nation. He stressed that everyone should respect it, as millions of people have sacrificed their lives to give India its national flag and national anthem.

RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari criticised Nitish Kumar and said, “He has become indifferent and this is an unfortunate situation. He is disrespecting the national anthem. Nitish is not worthy of being in the Chief Minister’s chair.”
