Blinkit’s new app promises delivery of snacks and beverages in 10 minutes
Blinkit launched a new app called ‘Bistro’ on December 6, 2024. With this, the company is promising to deliver snacks, meals and beverages within 10 minutes. This is part of Zomato’s strategy to capture the fast-growing food delivery market. Currently this app is on Google Play Store. There is a plan to bring it to Apple App Store in future.
This app has come in the instant food delivery segment after Swiggy’s Swiggy Bolt and Zepto’s Zepto Cafe. All these apps do not deliver proper meals, but deliver snacks like samosas, sandwiches, coffee, pastries.
Business model of quick commerce companies
It costs Rs 25 to 40 lakh to set up a dark store to store groceries.
The size of a dark store ranges from 2 thousand square feet to 2500 square feet. About 34 staff work in it.
In 2022, the average order value of quick commerce companies was between Rs 350-400. The gross margin in this was up to 15-20 percent.
Suppose a company sold goods worth Rs 400 and if there was a gross margin of 20% i.e. Rs 80 on it, then the company spent Rs 320 on goods and services.
Now if we deduct the salary given to the delivery boy from the gross margin of Rs 80, then the company is barely left with Rs 40.
Now if a company is delivering 600 orders every day i.e. 18 thousand orders per month, then it will have a revenue of 72 lakh rupees.
This includes staff salary, space rent, electric bill to inventory cost, which will be more than the revenue. Due to this, these companies remain in loss.
