BMW India on Thursday (21 November) launched the BMW M5 performance sedan in the Indian market. This seventh generation model is the most powerful M5 in history. The company claims that the car can reach a speed of 0-100 in just 3.5 seconds.
They have kept its price at Rs 1.99 crore (ex-showroom, pan-India). Dealers will sell the car as a completely built unit (CBU). The BMW M5 competes with the Mercedes-AMG C63 SE Performance, which has a price of Rs 1.95 crore.
BMW M5 Design: Slender headlights with integrated LED DRLs
The new generation M5 is built on the platform of the 5 Series and the design is also inspired by it. Its front has a new closed-off kidney grill with an illuminated frame. It has sensors and radar for the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Apart from this, it has thin headlights with integrated LED DRL, new taillights, and an aero-optimized rear diffuser.
In India, they will also provide the M5 with a standard M Carbon exterior package. Designers have added carbon fiber elements in some places on its roof, which has reduced its weight by 30kg. The car features 20-inch front and 21-inch rear M light alloy wheels fitted with M compound brakes.
BMW M5 Cabin: Dual screen setup with ambient lighting
The cabin of the BMW M5 features high-grade Merino leather with M multifunction seats with an illuminated M logo. A new design M steering wheel, unique ambient lighting, and dual screen setup.
This includes a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Apart from this, the car has an 18-speaker, 655-watt Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround sound system as standard.
Performance: Top speed 250 Kmph
A 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine powers the new BMW M5, generating 585PS of power and 750Nm of torque. The electric motor produces 197PS of power and 280Nm of torque.
This hybrid setup collectively produces 727PS of power and 1000Nm of torque. An 8-speed automatic gearbox transfers the power from the engine. An 18.6kWh battery powers the electric motor, allowing the car to run 69 km in pure EV mode.
The company claims that the new BMW M5 with a hybrid powertrain takes 3.5 seconds to reach a speed of 100 kmph, while it takes 10.9 seconds to reach a speed of 0 to 200 kmph.
This performance sedan reaches a top speed of 250 kmph, which can increase to 305 kmph with the optional M Drive package. In pure EV mode, it achieves a top speed of 140 kmph.
Feature: Advanced driving assistance system for safety
The new generation M5 Performance comes with performance-related features like adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers, rear-wheel steering, multiple driving modes, and a heads-up display.
For safety, the Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) provides functions like rear collision warning and lane departure warning with assistance in the car.
