Border Tensions: The Indian government on Monday summoned Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Nurul Islam to address the escalating border tensions between the two countries.
The development comes a day after the Bangladeshi foreign ministry summoned Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma over the same issue, according to a report by news agency ANI.

Border Tensions: Nurul Islam Seen Leaving South Block
According to ANI report, Nurul Islam was seen leaving South Block after being summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs. Tensions between India and Bangladesh escalated after Dhaka alleged that India was attempting to erect fences at five places along the border in violation of bilateral agreements.
Border Tensions: Bangladesh Summons Indian High Commissioner
The recent development comess a day after the Bangladeshi foreign ministry on Sunday summoned Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma to discuss the escalating tensions along the border. Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mohammad Jashimuddin met Pranay Verma in Dhaka and expressed the government’s “deep concern” over the recent tensions along the border.
“Foreign Secretary Ambassador Md Jashimuddin expressed deep concern on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh over the recent activities of the BSF along the India-Bangladesh border during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
45-Minute Meeting Held
Pranay Verma arrived at the Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry at around 3:00 pm (local time). According to news agency BSS, his meeting with the foreign secretary lasted for about 45 minutes. Speaking to the media after the meeting, he said, “I met the foreign secretary and discussed India’s commitment to ensuring a crime-free border and effectively dealing with the challenges of smuggling, movement of criminals and human trafficking.”
He added, “We have an agreement on fencing the border for security. Discussions are going on between BSF (Border Security Force) and BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) in this regard. We hope that the agreement will be implemented and a collaborative approach will be adopted to tackle crime.”
