Delhi CM Race Gains Momentum, These Names Are in the Spotlight

Delhi CM Race: The results of the Delhi Assembly elections were declared on February 8, in which the BJP got a clear majority. However, the face of the Chief Minister has not been decided yet. Now the preparations for forming a new government have intensified.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned to Delhi from his foreign tour and it is believed that he will take the final decision on the name of the Chief Minister. BJP leaders were waiting for his return and now all eyes are on the swearing-in ceremony and the much-awaited announcement of the CM.

Delhi CM Race: BJP’s Decision Expected Within Days

According to reports, the swearing-in ceremony may take place on February 19 or 20. Today is February 15, which means Delhi may get a new Chief Minister in the next five days.

According to sources, the BJP Legislature Party meeting may be held on February 17 or 18, in which a final decision may be taken on the CM candidate.

As per reports, out of 48 elected MLAs, 15 names have been shortlisted, out of which 9 will be further shortlisted. The Chief Minister, Ministers and Speaker will be selected from these final 9 names.

Delhi CM Race: These Names Gain Momentum in CM Race

At present, the names being discussed for the post of Chief Minister include Rekha Gupta, Shikha Rai, Parvesh Verma, Mohan Singh Bisht, Vijender Gupta, Satish Upadhyay, Ashish Sood and Pawan Sharma.

Rekha Gupta and Shikha Rai

Rekha Gupta comes from an RSS background. She has been elected MLA for the first time from Shalimar Bagh assembly constituency. She has also been a councillor in Delhi Municipal Corporation thrice.

Another name in this race is Shikha Rai, who has been elected MLA thrice. This time she defeated Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj from Greater Kailash Assembly constituency.

Parvesh Verma

One of the most important faces in this election battle, Parvesh Verma, is also in the race for the post of Chief Minister. He has won by defeating Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi seat.

He has been a two-time MLA and two-time MP. He is the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma.

Mohan Singh Bisht

Another name in this race is Mohan Singh Bisht, who has been an MLA six times. Bisht, originally from Uttarakhand, has been associated with the RSS since his student days.

Vijender Gupta

Delhi BJP’s prominent face Vijender Gupta is also a strong contender. He has been elected MLA three times in a row.

He has earlier been the Delhi BJP President and is also a member of the BJP National Executive.

Satish Upadhyay

Satish Upadhyay is also among the contenders. He is a prominent Brahmin leader and has won the election this time. He has previously been the president of Delhi BJP.

Ashish Sood

Another name in the race is Ashish Sood, a first-time MLA. He is currently the BJP in-charge for Goa and co-in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pawan Sharma

Newly elected MLA Pawan Sharma is also being discussed as a possible candidate. He won from Uttam Nagar assembly constituency in this election.
