Delhi Sewer Accident: Due to heavy rains, news of drowning or falling into pits has been coming from Delhi, the country’s capital, every day. In such a situation, another case has come to light where an innocent 8-year-old child narrowly escaped death. The child’s father has now raised questions about the civic agencies, asking why his child should get caught in the conflict between NDMC and MCD.
A case has emerged from Delhi’s Defense Colony area, where a child fell into a sewer due to administrative negligence. The accident occurred when the child’s parents had come to drop him off at school. As the child got out of the car, his foot accidentally fell on a plywood sheet covering a manhole. The sheet broke under the child’s weight, causing him to fall into the sewer. Fortunately, his mother managed to grab his hand in time, and the child’s father, along with people nearby, pulled the child out. The child’s father had to lie down on the road to retrieve his child from the deep pit. After the accident, the child was taken to AIIMS Hospital for examination, where he was kept under observation for 7-8 hours.
The child is still frightened- Claims his father
Following the incident, a video of Ajit Singh, the father of the child, surfaced on social media, in which he questioned the civic agencies, asking why his child should get caught in the fight between NDMC and MCD.
He further stated that it did not rain the previous day, and if it had rained, the sewer would have overflowed. He pointed out that the manhole cover was not broken or cracked; it was merely negligence. As a result, his son is still scared and has been waking up many times during the night in fear.
Such incidents occur frequently, but who is at fault? Why does the administration not take preventive measures? Why does it wait for an accident to happen? In this case, the child’s father was with him, but many children come to school alone. Who will take responsibility for them?
