Delhi has got a new Chief Minister in Rekha Gupta. She took the oath as CM in the presence of PM Modi. Special security arrangements have already been made for her protection. As per the instructions of the Home Ministry, she will now be provided Z category security. The responsibility of ensuring this high level security cover will be of Delhi Police.
As soon as she takes the oath, Rekha Gupta will be placed under Z-category protection. Additionally, security around her residence has been significantly increased.
Under the Z-category security, she will be assigned:
- Two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) on duty round-the-clock
- An escort vehicle with armed security personnel
- Four police officers stationed at the front of her residence
- Four police officers at the back of her residence
- Two commandos for additional security
What is Z-Category Security?
Z category security is one of the highest levels of security provided in India. Under this security cover, personnel from the Delhi Police, ITBP or CRPF, along with an escort vehicle, are deployed to ensure the safety of the designated person.
This is the third-highest level of security in the country. The Z-category security detail includes:
- 4 to 6 NSG commandos
- Additional police personnel
This level of security is assigned to individuals based on threat perception and is implemented under the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Key Features of Z-Category Security
Z-Category security includes a total of 22 personnel, comprising commandos and police officers. Under this security cover, a personal security officer (PSO) is assigned for protection. Many VVIP leaders, film stars, and sportspersons in the country are provided with Z-Category security.
Rekha Gupta: Delhi’s Fourth Woman Chief Minister

Rekha Gupta will be the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi. Before her, Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dixit and Atishi have been Chief Ministers. After Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma and Sushma Swaraj, she will be the fourth BJP leader to hold this post.
