Dominica to Award PM Modi with Highest Honour, Calls Him a True Friend

The Caribbean island nation Dominica has announced that it will confer its highest national honour on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Announcing the honour, Dominica acknowledged that PM Modi provided crucial support to the country during the Covid-19 pandemic. Dominica sees this contribution as an important step in strengthening the partnership between the two countries.

The award will be presented to PM Modi by Dominica President Sylvanie Burton during the India-CARICOM Summit to be held in Georgetown, Guyana from November 19 to 21.

In February 2021, PM Modi had sent 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to Dominica. This contribution not only helped protect the lives of Dominica’s citizens but also enabled the country to assist its Caribbean neighbours.

PM Modi Recognized as a True Companion by Dominica

Dominica has stated that the award recognizes Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and India’s support in sectors such as healthcare, education, and information technology.

The country acknowledged PM Modi as a true partner of Dominica, expressing gratitude for his support, especially during the global health crisis when the nation needed it the most.

PM Modi to Participate in India-CARICOM Summit

While accepting the award offer, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the importance of cooperation in tackling global challenges such as climate change and geopolitical conflicts.

He reaffirmed India’s commitment to working with Dominica and the Caribbean. It is noteworthy that Dominica’s President Sylvanie Burton and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit will attend the India-CARICOM Summit, which serves as a platform to discuss shared priorities and new opportunities for cooperation between India and CARICOM member countries.

Honours Received by PM Modi:

  • Papua New Guinea: Awarded the ‘Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu’ in May 2023.
  • France: Honoured with the ‘Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour’ on July 13, 2023.
  • Greece: Conferred the ‘Grand Cross of the Order of Honour’ on August 25, 2023.
  • Bahrain: Awarded the ‘King Hamad Order of the Renaissance’ in 2019.
