Dzire Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming sedan has received a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. The agency released the crash test results on Friday (8 November). According to GNCAP, Dzire has received 31.24 out of 34 points for adult and 39.20 out of 49 points for child safety.
This is Maruti’s first car, which has received 5 stars for adult and 4 stars for child safety from any crash test agency. Earlier, Maruti’s Brezza had received the highest 4-star safety rating. At the same time, the third-generation Dzire got only a 2-star safety rating in the crash test.
The company is preparing to launch the fourth generation model of its best-selling sedan on November 11. Maruti Suzuki India recently revealed the new Dzire sedan in the Indian market. After this, the company itself sent it for a crash test at Global NCAP.
Maruti Dzire – Adult Occupant Protection Crash Test
- Frontal Impact Test – In the frontal impact test conducted at a speed of 64kmph, Dzire got 13.23 marks out of 16. In this, the driver’s chest protection was termed ‘marginal’, while the passenger’s chest protection was termed ‘adequate’. At the same time, the driver and passenger’s knee and head protection was termed ‘good’, while the thigh protection was termed ‘adequate’. Its footwell area and bodyshell integrity were termed ‘stable’.
- Side Impact Test – The sedan was subjected to a side impact test at a speed of 50kmph and scored 16 out of 16. The head, chest, abdomen and pelvis area received ‘good’ protection in this test.
- Side Pole Impact Test – This test revealed that the driver’s head, stomach, and hips had good safety. However, it found the safety of the chest to be marginal. Based on these three tests, the Maruti Dzire received 31.24 points out of 34 in the adult protection category.
Maruti Dzire – Child Occupant Protection Crash Test
- Frontal impact test – During this test, testers seated a dummy of a 3-year-old child facing forward, which provided full protection to the head and neck area, but the frontal test offered limited protection to the neck area.
- Side Impact Test – In this test, the child restraint system of both the dummies provided full protection. Dzire got 39.20 points out of 49 in the child protection category.
Safety Features
The crash test involved a model equipped with 6 airbags, an Electronic Stability Program (ESC), 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats, ISOFIX mounts for the rear seats, and front seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters.
The 2024 Maruti Dzire comes with features like 6 airbags, ESC, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rear defogger, and seat-belt reminder as a standard. Its top variant gets features like a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and 360-degree camera.
