India’s first glass bridge over the sea has been inaugurated in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. This 77 meter long and 10 meter wide glass bridge connects the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the 133 feet high Thiruvalluvar statue on the coast of Kanyakumari.
This bridge was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday evening. Let’s take a look at the features of this bridge.
India’s First Ever Bridge of This Type
This glass bridge built on the beach of Kanyakumari is being described as the first bridge of its kind in the country. From this bridge, tourists get to see a beautiful view of Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thiruvalluvar statue and the surrounding sea. A tourism official said that walking on this bridge provides an exciting experience.
Glass Bridge Built at ₹37 Crore Cost
The glass bridge in Tamil Nadu was built by the state government at a cost of ₹37 crore. Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the bridge on the occasion of the silver jubilee of the unveiling of the Thiruvalluvar statue by late Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
After the inauguration, CM Stalin, Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin, state ministers, MP Kanimozhi and senior officials walked together to experience the bridge.
Glass Bridge in Kanyakumari: Focused on Promoting Tourism
The glass bridge is being projected as a visionary initiative of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. It aims to promote tourism by providing modern facilities to visitors.
It is part of efforts to develop Kanyakumari as a major tourist destination. The glass bridge has been built using advanced technology and is designed to withstand harsh marine conditions including salty air, corrosion and strong sea winds.
