Global Firepower Index: India Among Top 5 Militaries, Pakistan Faces Major Setback

Global Firepower Index that ranks countries on the basis of military strength, has released its latest list. India has secured the fourth position in this ranking.

At the same time, Pakistan’s position has weakened considerably compared to last year. Pakistan was ranked 9th in 2024, but now it has slipped to 12th place. The top three positions remain unchanged, with the US in first, Russia second and China third.

Pakistan’s Ranking Declines

Pakistan was ranked 9th in the Global Firepower Index 2024, but has slipped to 12th in 2025. This decline reflects its weakening military strength and challenges in defense modernization. Bhutan, on the other hand, is ranked 145th, the lowest on the list.

How the Global Firepower Index Evaluates Military Strength?

The Global Firepower Index evaluates military capabilities based on more than 60 criteria. The assessment does not include nuclear weapons. The main parameters include military units (tanks, aircraft, warships, missile systems), economic power (defense budget and financial resources), logistics capabilities (fuel supply, storage, transportation) and strategic geographic location.
