Voting Process and Key Figures

Voting for the 90-member Haryana Assembly will take place today, Saturday, from 7 AM to 6 PM. High-profile constituencies, including those of Olympic medalist Vinesh Phogat, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and current CM Nayab Singh Saini, are in focus. Both the BJP and Congress are vying for control of the state, with the electorate set to decide whether the BJP secures another term or if Congress stages a comeback after a decade.

A total of 1,031 candidates are contesting the election, of which 101 are women. Notably, 464 independent candidates are also in the fray, adding more unpredictability to the final outcome.

Past Lok Sabha Results

Haryana Assembly Election 2024: In the previous Lok Sabha elections, both the BJP and Congress won 5 seats each. However, on the assembly level, the BJP held 44 seats, while Congress was close behind with 42. This election will be a litmus test for Congress leaders like Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Vinesh Phogat, as they aim to prove their ability to lead their party to victory.

Focus on VIP Constituencies

There is particular attention on eight VIP constituencies, including those of CM Nayab Singh Saini and Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The BJP faces several challenges, including anti-incumbency, issues raised by farmers, unemployment, and dissatisfaction with government schemes. On the other hand, Congress must tackle internal rebellion and alliance difficulties.

Caste-Based Dynamics and Leadership Stakes

This election in Haryana appears to be driven more by caste dynamics than core issues. Newly appointed Chief Minister Nayab Singh’s leadership is also on the line, making the stakes higher for the BJP. As the voters cast their ballots, it remains to be seen which party will emerge victorious in Haryana.
