The entire first day of the opening Test match between IND Vs NZ was a washout yesterday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The second day started with the toss. Yesterday the toss also didn’t take place because of the persistent rains in the Garden City of our nation. But the second day of this opening match of the three-match series didn’t bring much joy for the Indian players and fans.
India won the toss and opted to bat first in the conditions that suited the bowlers the most. India has also gone with three spin bowlers and just two pace bowlers in their playing XI for this ongoing red-ball match against the Kiwis. The batters of the Men in Blue started slowly in the early half-hour of play. But the home side couldn’t carry that patience and determination on, and hence, they made a big blunder in this match.
The Men in Blue have registered their lowest score at home in the first innings of this red ball match in Bengaluru. The Kiwis crushed India as they used the conditions brilliantly. Matt Henry picked up a five-wicket haul and William Orourke bagged a four-fer on his maiden tour to India while the former skipper of New Zealand, Tim Southee picked up one scalp to his name that helped the Blackcaps side to bunded out India for just 46 runs in their 1st innings.
Rishabh Pant was the top scorer for the Men in Blue with 20 runs and Yashaswi Jaiswal scored the second-highest runs for India. The opener scored 11 runs to his name while the stalwart batters like Skipper Rohit, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Sarfaraz Khan didn’t go past the double-digit mark. HITMAN was out for just two runs while five batsmen of India got out on golden ducks.
India’s pervious low score in Test match cricket came in 2020 when they toured the Aussie nation during the Corona Virus time. India was competitive in that 1st Test match. But in the 2nd innings of that first Pink Ball Test match at Adelaide Oval caused India that downfall and so the Men in Blue were all out for just 36 runs and lost that match. However, it was a brilliant comeback from India in that series which they won Down Under.
In This Segment, We Shall Let Our Viewers, Readers And Fans Know How Many Times India Has Won A Test Match Despite Being Bundled Out Cheaply In The 1st Innings –
India Was Bundled Out For Just 104 Runs In The 1st Innings Of A Test Match And Still Won That Game By 13 Runs Against The Aussies At Wankhede Stadium In Mumbai During The 2004 Series –
In the year of 2004, the Aussies toured India to play a four-match series of the red ball format. Australia won two matches which were played in Bengaluru and Nagpur. The second Test match in Chennai was drawn and the last match of that four-match series was played in Mumbai, which India won by 13 runs despite being all out for just 104 runs in the first innings.
The home side, India reached that score of 104 runs mainly because of Rahul Dravid who was unbeaten on 31 runs and Anil Kumble who scored 16 runs. Jumbo was also the second-highest run scorer for the team in that 1st innings. In response, The Aussies could reach only 203 runs in their first innings. Damien Martyn was the top scorer for the visitors with 55 runs while Kumble picked up a five-wicket haul and Murli Karthik got a four-front to his name.
In India’s second innings, the team batted decently and bettered their performance from the 1st innings. The Men in Blue scored 205 runs mainly because of VVS Laxman’s 69 runs and Sachin Tendulkar’s 55 runs. That allowed India to set a small score of 105 runs in front of the Aussies. India defended that score quite well as Australia was bundled out for 93 runs in their second innings and the Blues won the match by just 13 runs.
In the second innings when Australia batted, Harbhajan Singh picked up a five-wicket haul along with Murli Karthik who picked up three wickets to his name. Zaheer Khan and Anil Kumble also picked up one wicket each. Murli Karthik was awarded the man of the match for his excellent bowling performance in both the innings of this Test match. Now it remains to be seen if India could give a similar performance in the ongoing Test match after being all out for 46 runs in their 1st innings.
