ICC Men’s T20 World Cup: As we all know the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is being currently played in the United States of America (USA) and West Indies is the other country which is co-hosting this event in the shortest format. In the Caribbean, the World Cup was hosted earlier as well.
In that edition, the West Indies hosted a full-fleshed tournament back in 2010, which was won by the current defending champions England. Jn this year’s event, the Men in Blue will start their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 today against the men of Ireland and their most important clash in the league is scheduled on Sunday, 9th June 2024 against Pakistan at New York.
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup: How Did India Perform In West Indies When It Was Played In 2010?
The Men in Blue had toured The West Indies last year as well for a full fleshed series across the three forms of the game. India won the Test match series and the series of the fifty-overs format. But under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, the Blues lost the series of the shortest format in the Caribbean.
As we all know and it has been said earlier in this post as well, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2010 was played in West Indies and the team of England won their first T20 crown that year after they defeated Australia in the finals of that edition. Guyana, Bridgetown and St Lucia were the three venues for that ICC mega event of the shortest format.
In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup of 2010, The Men in Blue started their campaign against the men of Afghans. India restricted Afghanistan to just 115 for the loss of eight wickets because of Ashish Nehra and Praveen Kumar. Nehra Ji picked up three wickets while Praveen got two scalps to his name. The Blues also chased down that score with ease and won the game by 7 wickets.
After this winning start, the Men in Blue met the heavyweights South Africa in their next game of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2010. India won that match mainly because of Suresh Raina, who scored a century in that match and he is still the only Indian batter to score a hundred in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup history.
Suresh Raina’s 101 runs from just 60 deliveries allowed the Men in Blue to post a score of 186 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs quota. Then the bowlers restricted South Africa to 172 runs with the loss of five wickets. Yusuf Pathan picked up two wickets while Ashish Nehra and Piyush Chawla got one wicket each to their names in this match which India won by 14 runs.
Despite this winning start, India could not go further in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2010. India lost three back-to-back matches. One each against Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka. India went to that tournament under Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the man who helped the country win their first title when the tournament of 2007 was held in South Africa.
