MBBS Seats & Colleges in Your State: Every year lakhs of candidates appear for the NEET UG exam, but only around 1 lakh get selected due to the limited number of seats available in the country. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently released a notice regarding the seat count.

According to the notice, there are a total of 780 medical colleges in India, with 1,18,190 MBBS seats. The notice also states that Karnataka has the highest number of MBBS seats, while Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of medical colleges.

NMC has released the provisional seat numbers for UG and PG medical courses for the academic session 2024-25. The commission has asked all medical colleges to verify their seat numbers within 15 days and report any discrepancy.

How Many MBBS Seats Are There Across Indian States?

According to the National Medical Commission (NMC), Karnataka has the highest number of MBBS seats in India with 12,545 seats, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 12,415 seats. Here are the state-wise MBBS seats details:

  • Tamil Nadu – 12,050
  • Maharashtra – 11,846
  • Telangana – 9,040
  • Gujarat – 7,250
  • Andhra Pradesh – 6,785
  • Rajasthan – 6,476
  • West Bengal – 5,676
  • Madhya Pradesh – 5,200
  • Kerala – 4,905
  • Bihar – 2,995
  • Odisha – 2,725
  • Chhattisgarh – 2,255
  • Haryana – 2,185
  • Punjab – 1,850
  • Puducherry – 1,830
  • Assam – 1,650
  • Delhi – 1,497
  • Uttarakhand – 1,400

These figures represent the total MBBS seats available for the academic year 2024–25 as per the provisional list released by the NMC.
