Imran Khan, Ex-Pakistan PM, Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts for human rights and democracy. The announcement was made by the Pakistan World Alliance (PWA) and Norwegian political party Sentrum.

Members of the Pakistan World Alliance (PWA), an advocacy group founded in December last year, have announced Imran Khan’s nomination. He is also a member of the Norwegian political party Sentrum. Sentrum confirmed the nomination on social media platform X.

Nominated in 2019 as Well

On Sunday, Party Sentrum said on X, “We are pleased to announce on behalf of Party Sentrum that, in alliance with an eligible nominator, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in human rights and democracy in Pakistan.”

Imran Khan was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 for his significant contribution to peace efforts in South Asia.

Winner to Be Announced After Eight Months

The Norwegian Nobel Committee receives hundreds of nominations every year, reports The Express Tribune. The winner is selected after an eight-month-long process.

Imran Khan Jailed Since August 2023, Sentenced to 14 Years

Khan, the founder of Pakistan’s main opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been in jail since August 2023. He has been sentenced to 14 years in prison in cases related to abuse of power and corruption.

Imran Khan was ousted from power after a no-confidence motion in April 2022. He has described all the allegations against him as politically motivated.
