IND Vs BAN: The Men in Blue were on the back foot when the first two sessions of the first day of the opening test match happened at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The home side, India batted first after the visitors Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first. But the batters like Rohit, Kohli and Gill failed to contribute in the opening session as India lost three big wickets in the first session and another three in the second session.
The current Skipper, Rohit Sharma, and the former skipper of the Indian Team, Virat Kohli, got six runs each, while Shubman Gill, the Prince, didn’t even open his account. The hosts, India, were placed at 34/3 at one stage, and this situation worsened as the match progressed. It looked like Bangladesh would run through the Indian batting powerhouse in the first innings, just like the Tigers did versus Pakistan in their maiden series win.
Today in this segment, we shall bring out the top four performers of Day One Of The 1st Test Match between IND Vs BAN in Chennai –
1. Yashaswi Jaiswal –
The young opener played a knock that was needed the most for Team India in that critical situation. Yashaswi Jaiswal held the one end and saw greats like the HITMAN and King Kohli tumble in their innings. The RR opener shared a much-needed stand with Rishabh Pant and continued his innings to keep India in the game.
Later, Yashaswi also shared a much-needed partnership in the second innings alongside Kannur Lokesh Rahul, which also helped him to bring his half-century. Jaiswal scored 56 runs from 118 with nine boundaries to his name. He played mature knock and he knew what the requirements of the team were. Yashaswi should have reached his three figured mark which would have boosted his confidence for the future challenges to come.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin –
India had started poorly but still ended their day on a high. It was mainly possible because of the spin twins who came out to the team’s rescue with the willow in hand. India was placed at 144 runs for the loss of six wickets and that was the time when Ash came out to the crease with his bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja. Ash and Jaddu helped India to reach a position of solidity after stumps on the first day. Ravichandran Ashwin amassed his sixth Test century and second on his homeground in Chennai. He is unbeaten on 102 runs.
3. Ravindra Jadeja –
Another spin-bowling all-rounder helped India to end the first day with a massive score of 339 runs for the loss of six wickets. Jaddu came out to bat after the fall of the above-mentioned Yashaswi Jaiswal. Jadeja and Ashwin have shared an unbeaten stand of 195 runs. This huge stand came when the home side was placed at 144 runs for the loss of six wickets and because of this huge partnership, the Men in Blue are in the position of strength in this opening red ball game of this two-match series.
4. Hasan Mahmud –
This pace bowler of the Bangladeshi side was also the third highest wicket taker in their maiden series win over Pakistan recently and here again Mahmud had stunned the Indian team and the crowd when he had picked up four scalps. Hasan picked up the wickets of Rohit, Kohli, Gill and Pant. His bowling efforts had put Bangladesh on top at one stage before the unbeaten partnership of 192 runs between Ash and Jaddu, which helped India not lose a single wicket in the last session. Mehidy Hasan Miraj and Nahid Rana are the other Bangladeshi bowlers who have got one wicket each to their names.
