IND vs BAN: Who Was The Last Batsman From Bangladesh To Score A Century In Test Matches In India?

Must read

IND Vs BAN: Bangladesh had a terrific run in Pakistan, where they whitewashed the hosts of that two match series and also won their maiden red ball series on Pakistan’s soil. But India has been a tough place to be and very few teams of the overseas nations have won a test series on Indian soil. The team England in 2012 was the last team to win a red ball series in the Men in Blue nation and that too, after they lost the opening match.

In the first Test match which was played in Chennai, the Bangla Tigers were outplayed in all three departments. Bangladesh had India reeling at one stage in both the innings of the 1st Test match at MA Chidambaram Stadium. India was placed at 144 runs for the loss of six wickets on day one and in the second innings, the hosts had lost three wickets with just 67 runs on the board. Still, the Blues made a stellar comeback and won the 1st match of the series by a mammoth 280 runs.

Bangladesh needs to give an all round performance to beat this Indian Team especially when they are playing at their den. The batters of the Bangla Tigers need to pose a good challenge in front of the Indian bowlers who are very accurate with the line and lengths. The skipper of Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto played well for his 82 runs in the second innings when the visitors were asked to chase a score of 515 runs.

Shanto played a good hand in the last innings for Bangladesh. But he should have got that three-figure mark. The skipper was the only batter from his team to reach a half-century in that whole match. Today we shall mention the last player from Bangladesh who has amassed a three-figured mark in the Test matches which has been played in India. The Bangladeshi batters can take inspiration from this current player for the last Test match in Kanpur.

Bangladesh has not opened their account against India in the red ball format matches. They have played 14 Test matches and 12 of them had ended in a losing cause with 2 matches have been ended as a drawn affair and their recent loss against the Men in Blue came in the first Test match in Chennai.

Mushfiqur Rahim is the current senior player in the Bangladeshi batting lineup. He also has a record of scoring the most runs against India in the red ball format matches. Mushi has scored 625 runs from nine Test matches and 17 red ball innings versus the Men in Blue. The wicketkeeper batsman, Rahim has also scored the most tons in the Test matches versus India. He has an average of 39.06 and a strike rate of 53.46 with two centuries which is still the most by any Bangladeshi batter versus India and he has scored two half centuries as well.

Rahim’s first ton against India came in 2010 at Chattogram, where the legendary current player of Bangladeshi cricket scored a fighting hundred when they were asked to chase a score of 414 runs. However, that innings of 101 runs off 114 deliveries from Mushfiqur went in vain as Bangladesh lost that red ball match by 113 runs. Then in 2017, Mushi scored a ton in India and becameB the first batter from Bangladesh to achieve this feat.

Bangladesh had toured India for a one off Test match in 2017 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal Hyderabad. With the help of two centuries from Murli Vijay and Wriddhiman Saha, three half-centuries from Pujara, Rahane, Jaddu and one double ton from the King, Virat Kohli, India amassed 687 runs for the loss of six wickets. While Bangladesh’s first innings was folded for just 388 runs and they reached that score because of Rahim’s 127-run knock and Shakib’s 82 runs.

In the second innings, India batted well extremely again and piled up 159 runs for the loss of just 4 wickets. Cheteshwar Pujara scored 54 runs in the second innings. The hosts of this one-off match, India had set a huge score of 458 runs as a target. But in the second innings as well, Bangladesh was poor with the bat and they could muster just 250 runs. India won this one-off match by 208 runs and Mushfiqur Rahim was the first and last batter from Bangladesh to score a century in the red ball format in India.
