India’s Preparation To Create History In The Depths Of Ocean

Must read

India is now preparing to create history in the depths of the ocean. After the successes of Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya L-1, the indigenous submarine Matsya-6000 will be wet tested in October under Mission Samudrayaan. This test will be done to explore the mysteries about 6000 meters below the sea level. The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) have confirmed this. Dr. M. Ravichandran said that all the components of the submarine have been successfully integrated, and now the final equipment is awaited.

Cost and Objective

The main objective of the Samudrayaan mission is to mine rare minerals in the depths of the ocean. The total cost of the project is around Rs 4100 crore, which includes the discovery of gas hydrates, polymetallic manganese nodules, and other resources. This submarine will also be able to monitor ocean changes related to climate change.

Test Process

During the wet test, the submarine will be lowered to a depth of 15 meters at Chennai Port. The test will assess the submarine’s ability to withstand pressure, speed and communication capabilities. Necessary improvements will be made based on the test results, and the mission is planned to be completed in 2026.

Naming and Features

This is a completely indigenous project and the submarine is named after the Matsya avatar of Lord Vishnu. Matsya-6000 can withstand pressure 600 times more than sea pressure at a depth of 6000 meters. It has the capacity to keep three people at depth for 12 hours, and also has the ability to stay inside it in an emergency situation of 96 hours.

Features of the submarine

Advanced life support system
Navigation equipment
Robotic arms for sample collection
High-resolution imaging system
This mission will add India to the list of countries that have this cutting-edge technology.
