Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust trustee and former MLC member Kameshwar Chaupal has passed away. According to reports, he breathed his last at Gangaram Hospital in the national capital Delhi. He was ill for the last several days.
It is noteworthy that Kameshwar Chaupal was the person who laid the first brick for the construction of Ram temple. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had also honored him with the title of ‘Kar Sevak’.

Who Was Kameshwar Chaupal?

Kameshwar Chaupal was the person who laid the first ‘Ram Shila’ (brick) for the foundation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya on 9 November 1989. At that time he was a volunteer of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). He was a resident of Supaul, Bihar.
In 1989 when the first ‘Ram Shila’ was to be laid for the construction of the temple, Kameshwar Chaupal was chosen for this important role due to his active participation in the Ram Mandir movement.
In 1991, he left the VHP and joined the BJP, which fielded him in the parliamentary elections, but he lost. He contested again in 2014 and lost the second time. However, he was a member of the Rajya Sabha twice from 2002 to 2014.
Kameshwar Chaupal’s Journey with VHP
Kameshwar Chaupal became a member of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in 1982. In 1989 he was appointed state in-charge with the headquarters in Gaya. From there he took the Ram Shila (brick) for the Ram temple to Ayodhya.
